SnapDog is committed to open source software and open sharing of information. Different parts of the project are licensed under different open-source terms.

SnapDog Software & OS (GPL-3.0)

The core SnapDog server software, client implementations, build tools, and the custom SnapDog OS distribution are licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0).

A copy of the GPL-3.0 license is available in the GitHub repository or on the GNU website.

Key Terms of GPL-3.0:

• Commercial Use: Allowed. You can run SnapDog in any environment.
• Modification & Distribution: You can modify the code and distribute your modified version.
• Copyleft (Share-Alike): If you distribute a modified version of the software, you must make the source code of your modifications available under the GPL-3.0 license.

Webpage & Documentation (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)

All written documentation, articles, diagrams, assets, and webpage content on snapdog.cc are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license.

This license allows you to share, copy, and adapt the documentation under the following conditions:

• Attribution (BY): You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.
• Non-Commercial (NC): You may not use the material for commercial purposes.
• Share-Alike (SA): If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.

SnapDog OS Installer, the native cross-platform SnapDog OS image writer, is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only.

Native Clients (Proprietary)

The SnapDog native client applications for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, visionOS, and Android are proprietary software and are not covered by the GPL-3.0 or any other open-source license.
